Thanks, but I already know that. The album's of Jay's that I've bought are the ones with songs that I really love on them. BTW did anyone else think he was great in Curse Of The Golden Flower? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0473444/ Although his role was not massive. (SPOILER) It was really sad that the Emperor forced him to kill himself, that movie was an out and out downer for all of them, kind of like a Shakespearian tragedy. (SPOILERS END) I personally think he's brilliant at acting and singing.

Went to the Jay Chou concert in Toronto - he is good live - really enjoyed it. He was encored 3 times.

It looked almost sold out to me - ie. just a very few empty seats here and there. Attendance was at least 13,000. Even the cheapest seats were filled to the very top row of the stadium, and this is the venue used for major music acts.

There seemed to be a pretty even distribution of Cantonese speakers, Mandarin speakers and English speakers - ie. CBC's (Canadian-born Chinese). There were some non-Chinese as well.

He mentioned that since his debut 8 years ago, he'd never performed in Toronto, and also commented on how there were so many people at the concert.

He played piano, guitar, drums and guzheng. His guests were Nan Quan Mama. The female in the group addressed the audience in English, said she had a friend going to U of T (University of Toronto) who showed them around, and they had a great time in Toronto, even though they were "freezing their asses off" LOL

just to give an idea of what it was like in the Air Canada Centre:

Sounds like you had a great time! I wish I lived closer to Canada. Did Jay speak in English at all for the non Mandarin speakers in the crowd? I hear he can't speak it too well though. How close were you to him and out of curiousity did he look as good looking seeing him in person as he does in photos? (in my opinion and if you were close enough to tell.) I'm going to be getting his Capricorn, Fantasy and On The Run albums with the money I've given for Christmas, but sadly I won't get them in the post until next month. Jay looks like an amazing live performer from what I've seen on YouTube. He really knows how to work a crowd! I would love for him to come to Europe, but maybe he's just not so well known here. Sad

It was a memorable experience. People were really excited to see him. He was touched that so many came to the concert, and said that he wanted to come back to Toronto.

No, Jay did not speak English, he spoke Mandarin. I did hear a couple of "C'mon's" and "Hey's" though LOL

I was to the right of the stage, about 1/3 of the arena away, on the 3rd level. It was still a good view, and I was happy with my seat. I brought binoculars, but I never used them.

Actually, he is cute in person. He looks better in real life.

Jay does have a very strong stage presence, a lot of charisma, and he sounded fine in the arena. He was very relaxed.

The clip posted above is a very different take on Nunchucks !

How big is the Chinese population in the U.K. ? I know there are BBC's (British-born Chinese) there.

Excerpt of Jay playing the guzheng for Fa Ru Xue (Hair Like Snow) at the Toronto concert - one of the encores:

From what I hear there are around 500, 000 Chinese people over here. Probably mostly around Chinatowns in places like London and Birmingham. I will be ordering Jay's most recent world tour DVD from YesAsia after Christmas. It's probably the closest I'll ever come to seeing him live in concert. He was due to the come to England for a concert in 2005, but it was cancelled for unknown reasons. Maybe he doesn't just have enough fans here. Sad He also filmed his video for Twilight's Chapter Seven http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=aRUg70fCmro from the Still Fantasy album in London, but sadly I didn't even know who he was at that time!

Well, that to me, is a large enough population. He almost came to the U.K. three years ago, and even shot a video there, so keep your fingers crossed Smile

Some of the Chinese people here in the UK will be British born as well and not all of them (young people especially) will appreciate the singers from their family's native country sadly. Although I personally perceive Jay Chou as someone young, hip and trendy with his music, so he probably will have a reasonable fanbase with both his albums and movie roles (although I hear he is not regarded as a good actor at all, by most!) My Dad knows a young girl named Rachel (her English name) who is visiting England from Taiwan, who has little interest in Taiwanese music (she prefers Western music like Queen) and it's ironic that someone Caucasian like me has more enthusiasm for Mandopop! Also the female proprietor of my local Chinese who seems to hate EVERYONE and I really mean everyone who is an Asian singer, actor or both.

I guess for some the grass is greener eh ?

Jay seems pretty popular with the "X"BC's as well.

Perhaps it's just that one likes things that are different to what one grew up with Smile

Regarding, that clip you posted of Jay playing the guzheng, how long has he been playing it? Because before I've only heard that he can play the drums, piano, guitar and cello. He looks very cute in that clip. I think he's one gorgeous man. summertime, do you know if there's any truth to the gossip that Hebe Tien is his current girlfriend? One person on the jc.net forum told me that they were just friends and Jay was still available, but an article on jaychoustudio.com seemed to suggest that they could be together. Although Jay's name will probably get linked to every girl he works with musically (even if it's not true!) until he gets married! Also I've heard that he will be touring the States soon (do you know any dates of concerts?) It turns out that Rachel, (the girl I previously mentioned) does appreciate some of her native music after all! She likes Jay's Cowboy On The Run song http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=D7RTeNxWp34 a lot and also some of Leehom's material. I love Jay's dancing in this MV and there are some very humourous touches in there! Am I imagining things or is the Caucasian guy at the beginning of his Mr. Magic MV http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=hNdtckRHZ1g saxophone player Kenny G? I know he has worked with Leehom before so it's not impossible, or is it just a dead ringer for him?

I don't know how long he's been playing guzheng, but I've seen it listed amongst the instruments that he plays. I have no idea as to whether that bit of gossip is true or not . As far as I know, the 2 concerts he did in Connecticut a couple days after the Toronto concert were his only U.S. dates. That song is cute, he performed it in Toronto complete with his dancers doing the country steps. I took a closer peek , and it's not Kenny G - I think it's the hair Smile

Hey summertime! Where were you sitting at the show? I was all the way in the back at 102! I've never listened to Jay before, so I was quite surprised by his stage presence. Not to mentioned that he played a million instruments that night! The guzheng totally threw me off!

I think this was the second best show I've seen in Toronto. First being Eason's of course. Very Happy
