Thanks for more video, Info.
I can't watch the last one by some reason.
Have you taken these by yourself in Venice ?
Is this going to be broadcasted on TV ? Sounds like a British TV Company. |

I have reloaded the video, it's ok now.
It's a coincidence that I got all these exclusive materials, from an insider. |

Some new info from the above Cantonese interviews, not covered in the English-language media - at least from what I've seen:
- Ang Lee gave Tony a lot of research materials to go over before shooting started - ie. the short story, documentaries etc. ; Tony stated that going through this material was merely the bare minimum, and that Ang Lee said to him that after he digested this, he would give Tony more materials
- Tony said that Ang Lee speaks in a very refined manner, but when he requires something, he can be very direct - doesn't beat around the bush - ie. he speaks gently and softly, but he's telling you, please follow the script ! - it's a gentle pressure
- Tony said he was not that familiar with the particular period that the film takes place in
- the period of time between Ang Lee approaching Tony about the role of Mr. Yee and the actual shoot was 2 months - Tony was about halfway through the Confession of Pain shoot at this point
- Tony prepared for Lust, Caution while still filming Confession of Pain; after the day's Confession of Pain shooting, he would be practising his Mandarin or going over the research materials; he found it tough to have his head in 2 different places; after the shoot for Confession of Pain ended, he felt a lot better just concentrating on one film
- also, Confession of Pain was a Cantonese film, however, sometimes Tony found himself speaking Mandarin on set - and director Andrew Lau would jokingly say, "Hey Tony, don't you go around working on other people's films eh !" LOL
- in one of the above Venice interviews, the interviewer brought up how George Clooney just wades into the crowd, and signs autographs/takes pics with everyone, thus making a lot of fans really happy; Tony's response was that unless the organizers say that something like this is part of the arrangements beforehand, he doesn't want to mess things up for them; also, he said of course he is more inclined to do such things in Hong Kong
- Tony stated that a lot of key people on the production were American, and a lot of the crew were from Hong Kong
- Tony mentioned that he didn't know at the outset how explicit the love scenes were going to be; it wasn't obvious from the script; he was aware there were love scenes, but didn't really think anything of it, after all, he's filmed such scenes before - it was only very close to those scenes' actual shoot that he became aware of their explicitness
- Tony was asked if he ever had time to see films at film festivals, and he said no, because he's only there for a very short time, and also he's concentrating on promoting his own film - ie. discussing the shoot, the preparation, communication with the director, collaboration with the other actors etc. - in fact, he was flying to New York the next day to continue his promotion work
- at the end of one of the above interviews, the interviewer remarked that despite his busy schedule, Tony still made time to chat, sign autographs and pose for pics for the Hong Kong TV crew sent to cover Venice - she said "He's so nice ! " - and as he was leaving, they were saying to him "We hope you win an award ! We hope you win an award ! " |
