Hi Saf!
I haven't seen the Chinese and HK films featured in the film festival, but since I am from the Philippines, I can only say my feed back to the entries from my country. Hmmm.. I highly recommend the movie KIMMY DORA. The movie is a box office success here and many watched it in theaters not only once but twice ( some even went thrice ha!ha! ). It was a funny movie. And maybe, the movie can give you an idea about Filipinos' sense of humour he.he..BTW, we are one of the happiest people in the world despite poverty, catastrophes, and other misfortunes.
Happy viewing!! _________________ Marsha |

Dear marsha !
Thank you very much for your helpful recommendation !
"Filipino Movie" I always associate with "Lino Brocka", who´s films I really like (and who did show -with love and passion - all positives and problems too, you mentioned)
Stay the way you are , dear Filipine fellow fan !

Hi Safran,
when i was in HK on last February I watched "Hot Summer Days" in the cinema, and I think its quite good..
"Little Big Soldier" also not so bad, Jackie Chan is very entertaining as always..
For "Bodyguards And Assassins" and "The Founding Of A Republic", I just dont like the storyline.. But its up to you if you still want to see it..
Btw I havent watch "Ip Man 2" since its not yet released. it will be release in HK on 29 april 2010.
OK then, gotta go now..
I hope you will enjoy watching all the movies..
Cheers,
Cisca |

Hello Helga,
I haven't seen the most of these movies yet, so I can't give you much information.
If you haven't checked this site, I suggest you to search the title and find out about the story line to decide which ones you are interested in.

Enjoy the chance to see these movies ! |

Dear Helga,
You must be enjoying the time in Udine now.
Hope you can watch as many interesting movies as possible and let us know about them when you return home.
I am sure this is the best opportunity for Asian Film fans in Europe.
You are very lucky. |

Hello dear friends and interested fellow fans !
Back again from beautiful Udine, where I had an amazing, atmospheric "Asia-week", I´ll tell you some of my film-impressions.
The nearer details or reviews of the films you can watch on:
http://www.fareastfilm.com/easyne2/LYT.aspx?IDLYT=6760&CODE=FEFJ&ST=SQL&SQL=ID_Documento=1525
(click eng. version - calender - and/or on "facebook")
Unfortunately we hat to depart on Friday and so I missed the last 2 days : "Ip Man", "Bodyguards and Assassins"and the "Audience winner ": "Castaway on the Moon".
Though we watched about 23 movies with engl. subtitles - till we had swollen, red eyes - haha !
Only a few were really disappointing ( and two times we left the cinema earlier)
Here my personal "high score - list":
China:
"City Of Life and Death" by Lu Chuan
Hongkong:
"Dream Home" Pang Ho-cheung
"Gallants"by Derek Kwok&Clement Cheng (funny)
"Little Big Soldier"by Ding Sheng (Jacky Chan and Leehom Wang - funny and better than I expected)
South Korea:
"Possessed" by Lee Yong-ju
"Running Turtle" by Lee Yeon-woo
"Secret Reunion"by Jang Hun
Japan:
"The Accidental Kidnapper" ("Yukai Rhapsody")by Hideo Sakaki
"Golden Slumber" by Yosihiro Nakamura
"Zero Focus" by Issin Inudo
"Wig" by Renpei Tsukamoto (funny)
ShinToho Studios:
"Black Line" 1960
"Flesh Pier" 1958
"Ghost of Yotsuya"1959
The Philippines:
"The Arrival" by Erik Matti (a quiet "festival surprise")- no release yet
Indonesia, Thailand, Taiwan and Vietnam - we unfortunately watched indifferent movies only.
My personal "most irrelevant" - list:
"The Actresses", "Phobia 2", "Sophie´s Revenge" (Zhang Ziyi´s first role as comedian!)
and "La Comedie Humaine" (in my opinion not funny or black "New HK Comedy" at all (with dialogs - referring to many old HK movie-titles AND a short imitation of Andy Lau and Tony too (....with asking the indifferent question:"........how he will play Ip Man" (???) !!!
Looked in total, FEFF 12 was a big pleasure and success - and I hope I will be able to attend next year again. (Only meeting you all in HK can hinder me !!!)
Cinephile greetings

Hello Helga and everyone,
Glad to hear you enjoyed the UDINE Film Festival. You watched 23 movies? You must stay away from PC to rest your eyes !
Cannes FF is coming up, so must be busy for film buyers, too !
I’ve been watching a lot of movies and DVD, too, but I’m bit tired of watching recent commercial ,mega budget,
techno oriented with cheap storyline movies.( They are “OK” to kill time , but leave you with nothing memorable… )
It’s really hard to find movies which are worth watching nowadays. ( I know it’s a matter of taste, though… )
I’d like to recommend “Crossing” by Kim Tae-gyoon. VERY VERY heavy but heart gripping .
I hope wider range of audiences will get to see this movie.
BTW, “Happy Together” is now in a theater in Tokyo for 3 weeks as one of 6 best films which the theater selected.
So I’m very happy to see Tony on a big screen, once again.

Helga,
Thanks for the lists to help narrow down what we can fit in our schedule to see.
23 films sounds like an endurance test! A cinephile you are indeed! _________________ suellen |

Dear Suellen !
Thank you for your message -
I only have to catch such chances like FEFF, because these kind of films most probably will never be screened in our cinemas - and - I love the big screen !
These pleasing and comfortable "endurance tests" are the only ones I can stand ! haha -( even not all of the films were "musts")
Compared to my "Tropical Island" my "Movie-Island" is easier to realize !
Heartly greetings from "MovieMom" (like my girls call me)
