Hong Kong Film Awards 2024: ‘A Guilty Conscience’ takes home the top prize

The winners of the Hong Kong Film Awards 2024 are in! The annual awards ceremony is seen as Hong Kong’s answer to the Oscars. It celebrates and recognises the achievements of Hong Kong films when it comes to directing, acting, screenwriting, and other technical aspects. This year’s edition took place on April 14 and boasted a star-studded night of celebration the best of Hong Kong cinema.
A total of 23 films received nominations at the 42nd edition. A Broad Daylight, which had the most number of nominations, ended up winning three awards, all of which were in the acting categories. Keep reading to find out more details.
Film noir The Goldfinger, which had 12 nominations, received the most prizes. Unsurprisingly, Tony Leung added another Best Actor win to his list of accolades. The film also won technical awards for Best Costume and Makeup Design, Best Art Direction, and Best Sound Design.
A Guilty Conscience, the highest-grossing Hong Kong film took home the top prize of Best Picture. It was the only award that the movie won. Meanwhile, A Broad Daylight and Mad Fate both received three awards.
