In this Cantonese interview posted few days ago, Tony mentioned that after finishing The Grandmasters, he is probably going to work with his favorite Japanese director next.
The other content of the interview is similar to the long interview in Mandarin. |

Thanks yitian It's exciting to know something presumably "non-commercial" is in the plan.
Who is his fav Japanese director? I won't be surprised if that honor goes to Yojiro Takita.

So out of the loop...hehe.
The video was cute though. Thanks for sharing!! Some of the content from Tony's interview:
Tony on being recognized while jogging -
Usually not, I wear a cap. Plus I tend to go early in the morning, like at 6 or 7 so most of the people out are also exercising. They won't pay much attention to me.
But when he does get recognized -
I run. (LOL)
I will sometimes be too into the characters I portray, so I don't think of myself as Tony Leung and continue to run.
Why did you participate in this film?
Mainly because I knew Zhou Xun would be part of the cast. I've always admired her but I've never had the chance to collaborate with her.
What do you think of her?
I find us very similar. She's very simple but very passionate about acting and enjoys the process. It's easy to work with her.
What did you find most difficult acting as a blind person?
I can't do the things I'm accustomed to doing. I'm used to using my eyes to act, but now I can't and it's a little hard.
Do you feel like it's wasted (his electrifying eyes)?
Not wasted per se, but it is difficult. There's more emphasis on body language, the dialogue and the pace to show depth to the character. These are all my weaknesses. (LOL)
On socializing -
I don't like to socialize too much with people in the industry. When I'm not filming, I don't want to talk about film. |

That is "method acting" in reverse. Very interesting technique... |

Thanks sparkles for the comprehensive translation. Fun to read , since my level of Cantonese still remains at grade 1 or lower . |

Thanks for the link and translation, yitian and Jenny.
I wonder who is the Japanese Director because there hasn't been much information in Japan. There is a rumor it might be Kiyoshi Kurosawa.
I will keep looking for the news. |

Yitian and Jenny, thanks for bringing us this exciting news. I hope all works out well. I have no idea who Tony's favorite Japanese director is, but I sure wouldn't mind seeing him work with Yoji Yamada. I loved his samurai trilogy films - simple, elegant, and heartfelt. Whoever it is, I'm filled with great anticipation and interest in this project! _________________ "Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Happy to hear that.
How about SHUNJI IWAI ¡H
I've read that he met you in Shanghai by chance, during "The Silent War" days.
Photo at the time.

I quite like Yoji Yamada too. It would be cool to see them work together. |
