Hi Helga
I order those from the internet. Yup, definitely English sub.
Like I said, I don't care for dubbed versions. The original voice of our idol for me is part of his great acting. You dub it- you lose the essence of the film. That is partly because Cantonese has a distinct melodic tone to it.
Could you imagine for example a dubbed ITMFL, IA, Lust, Caution and 2046?
Best regards,
Joe |

Thanks Joe -
What I meant was WHICH online-shopping do you prefer: Amazone or Yesasia or.....for the engl. undertitled Tony films? (appologize my poor englisch)
Principally it sometimes is very interesting to compare the differences between the dubbed (here most german) version with the original (with engl.or german subtitles) - how they interprete.........and sometimes even cut important scenes - unfortunatly ! (- sometimes we have no choice )
In my opinion too: ALWAYS the best to hear Tony´s original voice.
Have a nice weekend and enjoy some of your Tony films ! |

Thanks, Helga for your kind words.
I prefer sub-titles as well - when watching tony's movies. I must say though that it was hard to read fast enough the sub-titles during the majong scenes in Lust/Caution. I rewound the DVD back and forth to try to read everything but I think i lost most of the essential meaning in those scenes.
When I watch French movies (which I understand totally) and then read the english sub-titles, I do notice that a lot of the depth of meaning is lost in translation. It depends what the scenes are trying to convey, I guess. _________________ suellen |

Sorry Helga
Yep, I do order from those 2 sites ...Spanish, French, Italian, Chinese, Japanese , Korean and Brazilian movies. Amazon does have really good prices and "Like new" deals. And Yesasia offer titles that you can't find anywhere else.
I got those TL oldies from Yesasia.
Thanks.
I agree with suellen that in subs one is likely to get distracted and lost in translation. I try to just take in the gist of the dialogue and not take it word for word. Still, subs are much better than dubbed. Dubbing deprives the audience of the true emotion of the film as the replacement voice tends to be very mechanical.
I just hate white subtitles. Why do they do that?! Heh heh...
Have a wonderful weekend guys |

Dear movie fans,
I watched Jason Reitman´s "Up In The Air" yesterday in Cinema -
In my opinion shallow and unimportant - though a quite serious subject- a disappointing movie evening - Not fish/not flesh !
I hope the "Nespresso-Cloony-Fans" of you will apologize my " hard judgement " |

Congrats to "Hurt Locker"!
Just an update, Tony watched the movie, as well as "Alice in Wonderland" recently. |

^ thanks for the tidbit.
I wonder if TL has seen "El Secreto de Sus Ojos"- the winner in the Best Foriegn Language Film category from Argentina. He speaks Spanish, doesn't he?
Can't wait to see this film which I heard is simply ravishing.
As a side note, my dream is for a TL / Wong Kar-wai collaboration to win an Oscar. |

Hi ITMFleung,
"Los Ohos.." is getting a lot of excellent reviews here in Ontario.
I had a chance to see Clash of the Titans in 3D recently - not bad nothing memorable though - its a good movie to see in 3D.
Also finally saw Ashes of Time Redux - it was at the DVD rental place finally so I grabbed it. Not sure I would call it a martial arts movie - then again I would put WKW moives in a category of his own. Visual poetry. _________________ suellen |
