The 2024 Oscar Winners Updated Mar. 10, 2024 By Zoe Guy, a news writer who covers film, TV, music, and celebrities This awards season had it all: Bradley Cooper spending six years in conducting school for a six-minute sequence that people pretended to care about; Cillian Murphy losing his title as Ireland’s Sweetheart to Ayo Edebiri; Barbie snubs probably heard around the ghost offices of the gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss co-working space, the Wing. All of that pandering and excitement and anger of the last cinematic calendar year comes to a close with the 2024 Academy Awards on March 10. The ceremony honors achievements, not in which film had the most spineless husband, but the film arts and technology, with Oppenheimer nabbing 13 nominations, followed by Poor Things at its heels with 11 nods. In the end, the Oppenhomies took home seven trophies, including Best Picture and Best Director, while Poor Things’ Emma Stone nabbed Best Actress, stealing Killers of the Flower Moon’s one shot at a win after ten nominations. Billie Eilish won her second Oscar, for her Barbie song, making history alongside Cillian Murphy, the first-ever Irish-born winner for Best Actor. Below, all the winners. "Barbie," the other half of the dual box-office Barbenheimer sensation, earned eight nominations, but only got one win Sunday night for best song. Other big winners at the 96th Academy Awards were "Poor Things" — which won awards for hair and makeup, production design and costume design — and Cillian Murphy, who won best actor, continuing his winning streak after taking home comparable awards at the 2024 Golden Globes, BAFTAs and Screen Actors Guild Awards for the title role in "Oppenheimer." Emma Stone, in what some consider an upset win, took home best actress for her role in "Poor Things," beating out Lily Gladstone, who became the first Native American to be nominated for best actress for her role as Mollie Burkhart in Martin Scorsese's "Killers of the Flower Moon." This year's ceremony took place at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles and featured its share of both hilarious and touching moments.
