Tony is very close to his mom - which is totally understandable since
she was the one who worked odd jobs to raise the kids. Tony's dad
left the family behind strangling for food. This must be pretty hard
on the kids and his wife. As far as I know, his mother never got
remarried. After the recent breakup with Carina, Tony moved back to
live with his mom. It's probably a temporary solution until he finds
another joint to stay. But that tells you their mother-son
relationship is very solid. If there is one woman Tony loves the
most in this world, it's got to be his mom. Enough said.
Sister
Not much has been said about Tony's younger sister in public. All
I know is that she was married in 1985 and had a son, perhaps she moved to
Singapore??? I am not sure.
Friends
Jacky Cheung
These days, after Jacky started his family, they don't see each other
as much as they used to. Back in the early 90s, they are two unmarried
guys who liked to hang out in the karaoke bars. They actually
worked together several times in the late 80s - early 90s, playing supporting
roles in B-rated films. But they are quite successful in doing
that. Tony won two Best Supporting Actors Awards from Hong Kong Film
Awards, so did Jacky. If Jacky hasn't given up his film career for
music, he could be another accomplished actor like Tony today.
Kenny Bee
Tony had known Kenny for years, but they never got close as they have
now. I am not sure what started their friendship - maybe they found
something in common after a few drinks and talks about how depressing life
is about. (just rambling here) Kenny is now one of Tony's best
friends. They have spotted going to pubs, and car-racing (model car,
not the real ones). Tony plays golf in Kenny's golf
club when he finds time.
Stephen Chow
Tony and Stephen were very good friends back in the days when they are
nobodies. They got to know each other before entering TVB training
school. We should thank Stephen for inspiring Tony to apply to TVB
training school, else he would never turn out to be an actor.
After they get into TVB, their life took quite different path. Tony
was an instant sensation. But it took almost 8 years before Stephen
made it big time. And looking back today, you wonder about how did
they do it. Determination and persistence is apparently the key to
success, and nothing is yours forever - success comes and
goes. To stay on top, you have to push yourself constantly to get
better. But frankly, they should consider themselves lucky - many
people have dreams of becoming an actor, only special few made it this
far, and much less stayed as long as they had. Nowadays,
Tony and Stephen have their own sets of friends they hang out.
Tony's first sweetheart - on paper at least - he had one or two
girlfriends before Margie, but that's something he never talked about.
What's so special about Margie Tsang? Tony & Margie
broke up three times, but each time they came back for each other.
An ambitious and career-minded Tony had little time for Margie and it's
only their love that kept them together for all those years. From
the day they got to know each other to the days they parted, the
high drama was played on a public display and chronicled in every gossip
magazines. Come to think about it, all throughout Tony's
professional life, his love story is often
the headline news more so than the films he is in. Though
not a desirable spotlight, but I guess he should be thankful people are
interested in him. Fame and fortune is really a double wedged sword
I guess.
Kitty fell in love with Tony during New Heavenly Sword and
Dragon Sabre (1986). It's one of those Tony & Margie
cooling off periods. Their love affair lasted only a year. But
it's also the talk of the town since NHSDS was well-received. The
unfortunate end of their romance has much to do with the irresponsible and
irrational behavior of Tony. But you can't hope something to work if
it's never meant to be. Tony's heart is with Margie.
He went back to her after Police Cadet 1988.
Tony's partner for over 18 years. They are not married yet.
While this partnership has been rocky at times, it's sustaining
and growing against all odds.
